OPRAH & SABATINO

Sabatino (the Balestra family) invited Oprah for a truffle hunt in Umbria, Italy in 2015. The trip began with an early morning truffle hunt for Black Winter Truffles (Tuber Melanosporum Vitt.). Our truffle hunter and his dogs, took Oprah, Gayle, and Gayle’s daughter Kirby into the forests to hunt for these truffles. Black Winter Truffles have a thick, course black exterior, and a black interior with white marbling. They have a very strong, earthy, cocoa aroma and flavor.
After a few hours of hunting, the discovered truffles are brought back to the Sabatino facility, where the truffles get cleaned.
Soon after, the cooking begins, and a Black Winter Truffle feast is ready to be served: various pastas, pizzas, focaccia, chicken, meats, and cheese – all covered in fresh truffles!
The next morning, the hunt continued, but this time, for the most prestigious truffle: the White Truffle (Tuber Magnatum Pico). White truffles have a thin, off white or pale yellow exterior, and a white to pink interior, with white marbling. The aroma and flavor is earthy, but reminiscent of garlic, cheese, bread, and walnuts.
After a fresh truffle filled bag and truffle filled bellies, Oprah and her friends left Umbria, to share these truffles back home with loved ones.
